3mm wetsuit

3mm wetsuits are perfect for warmer climates and your go-to if you’re spearfishing or freediving in warmer waters abroad. Choosing either a 3mm wetsuit or a rash guard wetsuit is always preferable to diving in shorts or a t-shirt, because it gives you protection from jellies, coral and generally any stingy critters (gloves, socks and a hood are also advisable where stingies are a possibility). It also offers some protection against the sun and from getting sunburnt. Many will go abroad to warmer waters and just dive in board shorts, but this puts them at risk of the elements and it is not advisable.

An extra benefit is that the 3mm wetsuit will help you maintain your temperature for longer. Even in warm water, spending a long time diving can lead to gradual heat loss. Another huge benefit of a 3mm wetsuit is that you can consider having a lined version. This means your suit will be lined with a thin net or tights-like material and the advantage is that you don’t have to wet it or lube up to put it on – you can put it on dry. You can’t do this with an opencell wetsuit.
