Found my Cressi Moicano 75 in the shed a few weeks back and thought it might be time to get back into spearing.
After watching a few vids by Daniel Mann, I decided yesterday was the time to make my own band and head out early doors today, expectations weren’t high and would have been happy just to see a few fish.
Got in the water just before first light about 2 1/2 before a big 8m high tide and expected to get battered.
After sorting myself out I was just below the surface in about 2m of water using my torch until it got light.
Viz was about 1 1/2 – 2m max and all of a sudden something flashed past me.
I quickly spun around and manage to find it but again as soon as I pulled the gun onto it and squeezed, safety was on and then as I clicked it off the fish was gone.
Feeling a bit gutted and annoyed at myself I thought “ahh well it’s nice to be out”.
About 30 seconds later the flash was back, this time I made no mistake, drew on him and fired, straight through the gills, which I was quite happy with especially in shit viz.
Got the fish sorted whilst being dashed on the rocks but lost a fin in the process.
Well worth the sacrifice for this beauty. After more than 3 years out I was chuffed, and learned a few valuable lessons too.
