When selecting a foraging bag, you need to consider what foraging activities you'll be doing and what needs you will have. Whether you're collecting on the shore, forest or field, the right bag can make your experience better, and keep what you've foraged in good shape.

Material: mesh vs leather or cotton

Mesh bags: Our foraging bags are made from strong, durable mesh, which offers a lot of advantages. The mesh allows any moisture or water to drain away quickly, making these bags ideal for coastal foraging. Whether you're collecting scallops, oysters, or other shellfish, the mesh prevents your catch from becoming a soggy mess.

Leather or cotton pouches: While some foragers prefer leather or cotton pouches for the aesthetic, these materials really do have limitations. They are not suitable for wet or even damp environments as they can become heavy and messy. Additionally, they can stain easily, making them less ideal for collecting juicy berries like blackberries.

Going hands-free

Many of our mesh foraging bags come with waist straps, allowing you to keep your hands free while collecting your finds. This is particularly useful when foraging on the shore or in woodland, so you can move freely and use tools such as a rake for cockles as needed.

A quick safety tip: If you’re foraging or snorkeling in the water, it's best not to clip the bag to your waist for safety reasons. Instead, you can clip the bag onto a float to keep your catch safe during your session.
