Rob Allen Trigger Mechanism with Loading Butt

Loading butts push the gun away from you when loading up, meaning you don't have to pull back as far. The downside is that they reduce the surface area and reduce the spread of the force on your chest.

Rob Allen Aluminium Sparid Railgun

The durability:

Currently our most popular gun. The aluminium range offers unparalleled strength, durability and accuracy; these powerhouses are built to last. To put it into perspective we still sell replacement bands to a chap that bought his aluminium railgun in 1998!

This is a big step up from the RA Scorpia sporting a muzzle bungee and far more importantly, Rob’s famous rail barrel. The rail hugs the spear perfectly in line with the firing mechanism and the low profile muzzle resulting in an incredibly smooth firing system which is deadly accurate. The accuracy of these guns is legendary and is what makes them the number one choice for many of the pros out there targeting small or ginormous specimens alike.

The power:

This configuration is perfect for the UK with the slightly thinner spear and single rubber offering slightly less drag than the upgraded Tuna versions. However, underestimate the power of the single 16mm RA band at your own peril. We have previously had a couple of people trying to return them claiming they were broken because they couldn’t load them!ย  Needless to say, they just use a different calibre speargun.

The legendary power of this speargun comes from one thing, the type of band rubber used, and here’s the science behind it. So there are 2 types of rubber found on spearguns today, manufactured by the process of extrusion or dipped.

Extrusion rubber is made by mixing large batches of rubber mixed with fast curing agents and is squeezed out of the machines like toothpaste to the desired thickness. This is the cheapest form of speargun and the quality varies drastically. It loses its elasticity (power) quicker than its ‘dipped’ counterpart, is generally significantly less elastic and more prone to splitting from nicks in its side. You can identify this rubber by its block colour throughout the centre of the band ie it may be pure black to the core.

Dipped rubber is an expensive manufacturing process which is why its avoided by most brands. The bands are created in a similar way to how candles are created, they are repeatedly dipped and dried until the desired thickness is achieved. Latex is the most elastic substance on earth, and the purer the latex the more elastic the end result. Only pure latex is used in RA rubber and next to no curing agents are added. This is the exact reason why RA guns are so powerful, and stay powerful over time. You can tell bands are made by this dipping process because they will have a natural gum rubber coloured core with faint rings, as you’d see on a tree stump. The outer colour is a UV protector.

The accuracy:

Most spears can’t handle the power of RA’s dipped rubber power bands so they need something special, and now the RA spears are famous in their own right.

These spears are made from spring steel which gives them a much higher ‘tensile’ strength over the common stainless steel spears. The higher the tensile strength of a spear, the faster it can be fired before it becomes inaccurate. The thicker the spear, the higher its tensile strength, the faster it can be fired. There is a reason everything is the way it is on RA guns and the science behind them is easily explained, unlike many marketing fads which are designed to catch spearo’s over fish!

Tri-cut for phenomenal penetration, it has a gravity-powered barb which locks open ensuring no fish can thrash off during the final fight. This is connected to your gun via a single wrap of 400lb heavy-duty mono shooting line secured by stainless steel crimps.

RA guns fire faster and hit harder. Make no mistake, Rob Allen is the Chuck Norris of spearguns, no corners are ever cutโ€ฆ ever.
